To complete its mission to improve the quality of life of society through sleep and rest, ESCI has made its largest investment in R&D in Europe to reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

SIDS is the leading cause of death in the first year of life for babies born in developed countries (up to 2,400 deaths per year in Europe). The risk of SIDS is greatly increased when babies are born prematurely, in multiple births or who are born to older mothers. Due to the current demographic changes, these figures are likely to increase in the future. The risk of SIDS is on the increase, and this worry for new parents and couples has let to the search for possible solutions to this problem.
SIDS has been found to be related to external factors such as overheating, toxic inhalation, extended apnea, gastroesophageal reflux or mattresses that are too soft.

The ESCI has been working on ways of reducing the impact of these external factors for years and as a result of its research, has come up with a new mattress for cots called BabyKeeper®. This new product will help reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome by addressing the main factors.
